What Do Youthink! About Education?

Neha, India

"I am an MBA student in Delhi. I was inspired by my economics teacher who encouraged us to look at the various aspects of growth for a country, viz. education, income, employment, standard of living, forest reserves, inflation and various other factors. After looking into all these factors, I realized that India needs a lot of initiative from people like us in order to keep up its growth rate which has gone down recently due to the ongoing recession. So I've decided to go into the Indian Administrative Services so that I can bring about a change at the grass root level by being able to make policies for growth of India."

Okonweze A. E. Chinonso, Nigeria

"Education in Africa is not noticing any improvement, we are still behind. For example, in some schools, there are no teaching aids for teaching students, the level of illiteracy is high, and the environment is not conducive to learning, and so on. In Africa we need development in our educational sector because education is the key to economic development in any society."

Layla Kamrun Naher, Bangladesh

"I am a citizen of an underdeveloped country. After finishing education, we don't know whether we will be able to get a good job or not. The scope of our technical education is limited. I think the educational system of developing countries should be technology-based."

Carmen, USA

"Primary school education must be made mandatory. Youth should receive skills training to support human resource requirements to improve country economy."

Naveeda, India

"People who wish to get educated don’t get the chance because of poverty. I met many children—girls and boys of my age—who are willing to study but not able to. But some of the children who are being educated don’t study as they don’t know the value of education. I take tuitions and have met children who don’t wish to study at all. Some children hate school as they are given a lot of homework and parents won’t leave those children till they complete it, and if they don’t they are beaten up both by teachers and parents."

George, Ghana

"Schools must be encouraged in Africa, and third world countries should have youth organizations like I have been trying to work on at the Cape Coast Technical Institute.

"Credible organizations with carefully selected aims and objectives would help educate our African students and youth to accept their valued culture and become well informed with issues like global warming, HIV/AIDS, malaria prevention and eradication, the preservation of our ecology, plant medicine and environmental issues.

"Our beautiful culture and traditions are eroding each day and moment at an alarming rate."

Jason, Phillippines

"I want to reply on some social issues, like for example on education. Here in the Philippines there are some public schools who have limited classrooms, and they cannot cater to their pupils. There are some night schools that have no light in their classrooms, they only use their emergency light and some only use candles. This kind of problem in the Philippines is not unusual. Government officials keep on promising things that they can’t do. They should take care of the youth, because the youth is the hope of one’s country."

Emmanuel, Malawi

"In countries where education is not compulsory, young people have found themselves making wrong decisions. As long as education remains a powerful force for development, the right kinds of decisions have to be made with good regulation. The education standard continues to dwindle in many African states, something has to be done and a voice has to be created."

Charles, Tanzania

"Education in most African countries is not given the priority and privilege it deserves. Taking the example of my country (Tanzania), the students in higher learning institutions strike and riot everyday to insist the government provide enough funds to help students to pay for their fees. But the government doesn’t want to listen; instead the leaders are using public fund to make themselves rich and send their children abroad, while we poor remain in this miserable life. As for me, I haven’t managed to pay my fees up to this moment because the loan board doesn’t want to give me the fund regardless of the fact that I don’t have my parents (this being one of the requirements in order to be granted a loan)."

Rodney, Zimbabwe

"I think children will have a keen interest in education if various competitions are held regularly at schools. Some of the facts that influence them are the prizes to be won and becoming famous after winning. By so doing, they will like participating in school. I encourage those in charge to arrange such competitions, especially those which will end at national level. I am certain this works; it did for me. It will stop those children who think going to school to get education is something you will be forced to do, not knowing it is about mapping your future."

Rebecca, Vanuatu

"I'm working for an education project and I found out that education is very important and education should begin at home … parents and teachers should work together for the good of the children. Customs and culture are part of our identity, and if we keep our customs then we will have respect at all ages. I understand that education is the role of parents, families, teachers and communities. Whatever we do, children learn from that—they develop their understanding both inside and outside the classroom."

Andrew, Nigeria

"The level of examination malpractice in Nigeria is gradually killing the standard of education in the country."

Isaac, Nigeria

"What I got is that education can never be over emphasized in the whole world."

Soneye Olurotimi, Nigeria

"The teacher that impacted my life the most was my primary school teacher. I still remember how she was in full control of the six-student class. She encouraged us, chided us and praised us. She was the basis of my education. She instilled discipline and made sure I would be a better person in the future. It is a pity that now she could not run the school again due to old age; the person that the school was handed over to did nothing to improve it but watched as the standard of the education there, dwindled to an appalling level. For the rest of my life, I will forever remember her."

Sulaiman, Nigeria

"I think education must be a top priority especially those for less privileged."

Borel, Benin

Daniela, 27, Bolivia

"I'm very pleased to know about this site, because I consider youth and childhood education the answer to many developping country problems ... and having a space for sharing thoughts about it is a good way to start. I really hope to find in other's experiences the feedback for what I'm looking for: the aid for developing my beautiful country."

Nazimh, 25, India

"Education should not be confined between the two covers of the books; but it should open the avenues that charter the course of destiny on Earth. It should be pragmatic and less idealistic as ideal situations are as rare as 'Dodo'.Students should be made to realise that merely passing the exam and securing top positions is not the end of the line; but the journey into the world starts from here and they must use education as guidelines to promote understanding and help to create 'One World' concept."

"The Great 93," 12, Pakistan

"Education is always a very important sector in the development of any organization, institute or most importantly, in the development of, a country. But in Pakistan Education is not given the importance which should be given. The government always says that "Education is our first priority" but infact in a research I came to know that 7% of the whole country's GDP (Gross Domestic Product) is spent on government administration and when we talk of Education; only 3-4% is spent on Education. That's why the litracy rate of Pakistan is not even 50% it is just 48% and even fron the 48% there are about a thousand people who do not even know the ABC... They can just write their names and nothing else. There are a very few schools which provide free education for poor and rural families. But this is not enough. The government spend more amount of money on Education rather than grow its own politicians' expenses."

Olubo, 24, Nigeria

"Something has to be done to nigeria educational system where school fees are increased in such a way that the masses cannot pay anymore and they also send students out of school anyhow such that most of these students go to the street to rob and turn into object of violence since they have been sent out of school it is very important to look into these issues."

Rotoba, 20, Mexico

"we have to teach the kids that the education is not a obligation is the superation, education teach you that the universe is a big thing that you can reach and know, and its full of millions of beatiful details."

"nk and uc," 21, Zambia

"May i raise my concern over the importance of education.Education can build life's and sustain many. Places like africa need more education despite having a catastropihc background. The catastrophy can be attributed a practical factors but iam rather intersted in the way forward. Noble men let us support each other and togrether let us get educated and empowered. African in western countries remember the 'African Dream.'"

Gaya, 17, Malaysia

"Modern era has called upon education as a necessity in order to survive in the world we live in today -- a magnificent gift that we shower upon ourselves to achieve great heights of success. I think that it is a great treasure to indulge ourselves in education and even an obstacle , literally spoken as the length of the Great Wall, China should not taint our spirits in acquiring education. It is the only way to a new world of seeing, feeling and being.Frankly, education is a saviour from poverty, discrimination and best claimed as a symbol of unity among all people."

Ekoko, 31, Cameroon

"Education is the solution to all problems. It is in this light that i see un-educated people as death people though living. When we stop learning,we start dying. Though in most less developed countries, this principle is still lagging, it will, one day be accapted. Hence parents should send their children to school despite the economic misquotation of education in most less developed countrie."

Victor, 22, Ghana

"Today we choose the path we want to take tomorrow. In doing so we determine where we want to be and how influential we will be. This experience becomes an ongoing process as we climb the ladder of education. As a young african college student with each step i make today in education I achieve the undeniable prize of tomorrow."

"aduheneopoku," 23, Ghana

"I am a Ghanaian by Birth and a marine Engineering student. I believe is high time we start focussing on Education in the Western World because there is whole lots of valuable things out there that because of igorance if abundant these weath of resourses. One thing i have come acrose is our leaders have abundant Technology and that is the sourse of development to every nation. Education can change the situation of the society within a short possible time if we are going to focus on technology standard in Africa. i will be very grateful if you could give me the necessary support to enable me turn the world round on behave with God given talent. Alvin, 23, Indonesia

"every mankind in this world must have the freedom to get the education or enjoy their life
And they should get a free education program.
We can share our love and made the positivity way for them.
In one world and one life … we must get in one community to make this life more better and beautiful.
