Junior 8 Summit 2009
Podcasts

The Junior 8 Summit, or J8, is an annual forum where young people from around the world meet to share their concerns and ideas for how to solve global issues with G8 leaders and the world community. This year the J8 was held from 5th to 12th July in Rome, Italy.

A team of four represents each of the G8 countries: Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States.

This year they were also joined by teams of four from Brazil, China, Egypt, India, Mexico and South Africa. Participants discussed the following themes:

  • Child Rights in the context of the global financial crisis
  • Climate Change
  • Development efforts in Africa

Toward the end of the summit, representatives from the different teams met with world leaders to present their Declaration, which incorporated proposals for immediate action on the above issues.

Youthink! caught up with two of the USA team members to ask them about their experience.
